3. Introduction to 2002 Revision of Monetary Statistics |
1)Since 2002, the People抯 Bank of China has revised the system of monetary and financial |
statistics in line with the IMF Manual on Monetary and Financial Statistics. As from 2002, |
the monetary statistics thereafter would not be fully compatible with historical statistics. |
The revision includes the following 3 aspects: a) to adjust the reporting institutions, i.e. |
foreign-funded banks being included in the reporting institutions, policy banks being |
removed from the group of state commercial banks and the separation of urban |
commercial banks from urban credit cooperatives; b) to expand statistical coverage with |
foreign exchange business activities of domestic financial institutions being included in |
monetary statistics; and c) to correct the existing errors and omissions, |
e.g. the reclassification ofrediscount as borrowing from central bank other than the |
subtraction of claims on other sectors. |
2)All relevant statistics of those financial institutions which have exited from the market, |
i.e. urban credit cooperatives, trust and investment companies, etc, will be removed |
from the monetary statistics the year after their closure. |
3)In all relevant statistical sheets, the itemsclaims on non-monetary financial institutions |
and Liabilities to non-monetary financial institutions have been renamed as claims on other |
financial institutions and Liabilities to other financial institutions. In the balance sheet of |
deposit money banks, other financial institutions include security companies, insurance |
companies, asset management companies, etc. |
